Cue Magazine

Cue is a student magazine available for free. The title CUE stands for : College University Edition and from that we can tell that its main target audience is the student population of around 16-21 year olds. The font they have used for the title also suggests that it is aimed at the youth, as it is a rounded, "cool" font.

The background picture is of a female student standing behind a college building. They have used a long depth of field to blur out the building and tree to concentrate the readers eye on the character in the foreground. She is smiling and holding books the smiling represent that she is having a good time and the books are used to suggest learning.

The language they have used and the vibrant colours they have used for the sub titles catches your eye because of the vibrant colours and also makes you want to read that artical because of the wording use. For example it says "New kid on the block... What CUE and cover girl Elaine have in common" It makes you want to find out what they do have in common.
There is also one that says "ten ways to freak out your room mate" this is perfect for the target audience of the magazine as most of the readers will be in accommodation with rooms mates and will want to know the best way to get one up on their room mates.

Overall, the magazine targets its audience very well both with the use of vibrant colours but also with cleaver wording which makes the reader want to know more and to buy the magazine!

CollabMag

CollabMag is a sixth form magazine designed and  created by sixth form students.
The overall look and feel of the magazine is representative of a student magazine. It uses a neutral background colour of grey to draw attention to what is in the foreground of the front cover. Of of the most noticeable things about the foreground is the "splash" of pain and the round symbols. These are used to represent youth and excitement. Usually nightclubs use these sorts of artwork on their flyers to give the impression of a youthful club night. The way that they have created this artwork too makes it look like it is bursting out the page, which represents that the magazine is jam packed and full to bursting of great stuff to read and see.  They also have used vibrant colours for both the title and the centre picture, to attract the attention to these elements.

The images on the magazine are all showing college life and are all taking around the college. This is to to represent what the college is like and is showing the successes of the college. In all the pictures the facial expressions on all the people shown are of smiles, this is done to represent that the college is good fun and that you will always be smiling. If you look at the title, you can see that they use a relatively in-formal font type and they use block capitals for the whole title, which suggests that they are trying to portray the college as being youthful, and "cool", and not just sticking to the formal rules. Also the actual name of the magazine "CollabMag" suggests that the college is very close, the collaborate and work together almost like a family.

On the front cover of the magazine is a list of achievement that the college have managed to get. This is put on their to show how successful the college is and also to interest readers into finding out the whole story inside. It gives the reader an expectation of what is to come without even having to turn the page.
What is noticeable from the cover of the magazine is that there is a lack of representation of males. Most of the people in the main picture are females, and there is no mention of males with any text on the cover, again just females.

Overall, i believe this is a good example of a student magazine. It is bright, vibrant, different, attractive, interesting and makes me want to find out what else is in the magazine, just by looking at the cover.

Representation of Arnold S. across these two magazines.

This first magazine concentrate on the fact that Arnold is the governor of California rather than going into his film career. This straight away tells us that the target audience for this magazine is for intellectual people, maybe interested in politics, but also the general world around them. For example some of the other articles in the magazine are to do with music awards, science discoveries and new novels. The smart dress suggests that he is an important individual with great power. He would want to be represented this way so that people would take his as seriously as a governor as they do as an actor.

This magazine portrays him in a different light. He is seen her as the unstoppable movie charter rather than a governor. The magazine has used him as in films he is portrayed as a very strong charter. The target audience for this magazine is more towards the fitness market and body builders. The captions suggests that Arnold is going to show you how to get muscles like his.

Using SLR's

In this picture we left the camera in Auto mode just so we could get used to using the camera at first.
In this picture we set the camera in sports mode. This meant that when we held down the shutter button the camera would take continuous shots at a rate of 2.8 fps.

This picture is meant to be a frame in a frame. We have used the bench  as the natural background frame. We took this shot using AV mode and set a low aperture.

Our nature shot was taken in AV mode too.

Here is another shot of some flowers. You can see how the focus of the picture is on the flowers its-self and the background is blurred.

This shot i took later that day with my SLR at Chalkwell beach.
